Charity & Zakat
In Islam, charity is a central value, and giving to those in need is both a duty and a means to support community development. This practice purifies the soul and ensures social balance.
📌 Zakat
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, an obligatory form of charity that requires eligible Muslims to give 2.5% of their annual savings to help the poor and needy. This act supports social justice by providing aid to those who most need assistance.
📌 Sadaqah
Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah is voluntary charity, given at any time and in any amount. It includes acts of kindness such as feeding the hungry, helping the sick, or supporting community programs.
Islamic Charity in Rwanda
Across Rwanda, Muslim organizations and community groups are actively supporting people in need through both Zakat funds and charitable projects:
- Health & Insurance Support: Organizations like Al-Amal Rwanda help provide health insurance and healthcare services to vulnerable families across various districts.
- Humanitarian Assistance: International Muslim charities, such as the Zakat Foundation of America, distribute Ramadan food baskets, clean water access, sponsor orphans, and build school infrastructure.
These charitable efforts help ease poverty, improve wellbeing, and contribute to national development by ensuring that vulnerable families receive the support and education needed for a better future.
